When I Pray For You {Children’s Book}

You guys just have to check out this sweet new book When I Pray For You by Matthew Turner. It is the sweetest! And when I pre-ordered it on Amazon, I also got a free copy of one of his other books, When God Made Light. Charlotte and I are enjoying them each so much. If you’re in the season of friends-having-babies like I am, these would make incredible gifts as well.

A few fun facts about the author and his wife – they live here in Nashville, and Matthew’s wife, Jessica, is an author as well. Not only does she run the blog The Mom Creative, but she also has written the books The Fringe Hours and Stretched Too Thin. Both books help women (like me!) manage their roles as wives, moms, employees, and creative human beings. I’m deep into Stretched Too Thin right now, and let me just say, IT SPEAKS TO ME. Check them out!

Life As I Know It

On Guilty Pleasure Reading

I have pretty vast interests when it comes to my reading style. I LOVE non-fictions, like Wild  and Unbroken. But I also love the suspense of Gone Girl and the intricacies of Game of Thrones.

But I also love the easy, thoughtless pleasure of reading cheesy love stories and tasteless tales. Most recently, this includes Courtney Robertson’s book, I Didn’t Come Here To Make Friends: Confessions of a Reality Show Villain.

Obviously, by admitting that I read this book, I also must admit that I watch the Bachelor/Bachelorette shows. Well, I guess half-watch with my girlfriends while we drink wine and talk over much of it. But still, I most definitely watched Ben’s season, when we all loved to hate Courtney. I cheered for Kacie from Nashville, even though she turned out to be a hot mess in the end, and the whole time I thought Ben was a little, well, boring.

Okay, back to the book. I actually seriously, really enjoyed it. It had a lot of inside looks into what it’s really like to be on a show like this (regardless of if you’re the villain or not), and the aftermath of the show airing. She definitely digs on Ben a bit, but I also felt like she is pretty forthcoming about her errors and flaws along the way too. Gotta give it to the girl – she’s brutally honest. And it really goes to show how much you don’t know about these contestants’ lives BEFORE coming on a show like the bachelor.

All in all, read it if you want something fun and easy. And now that that’s done, it’s time for me to dive into the next Game of Thrones book…

Life As I Know It

I am SO 21st Century

Well, The Boyfriend did a wonderful thing, and got me a fancy schmancy kindle for my birthday. I’m about to be hitting the road twice a month for work, so I am so THRILLED to have this nifty little gadget for keeping me entertained. But I have a confession.

I don’t know what books to start with!

I am not very up to speed with the current book trends, since most of what I read are boring old Christian-and-or- self-help-psychology-type books (recent reads include The Happiness Project, Last One Down The Aisle Wins, How to be a Hepburn in a Hilton World, Case for Christ, Screwtape Letters…oh, and all of my tons and tons of coursework readings). I really want to dive in to some quality fiction!

So TELL ME!! What should I get? What are the hip books these days? I’ve heard Hunger Games, and the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series…so what else has been stacked next to your bed lately?

Top Blogging Books Roundup

UPDATE: My mom is the best, and the other day “10 Things You Need To Eat” and “The Happiness Project” appeared in my mailbox!!!  I will write reviews as soon as I finish them 🙂

In the last 1 1/2 years, as I’ve entered the blogosphere as a writer and reader, I have stumbled on a handful of extremely special blogs–they have opened me up to new creativity and have enlightened me over and over.  Today I’ve gathered a list of a few books that I would love to own, and that I have discovered via my favorite blogs.  This is a wish list of mine, however the reality is there is no way, even if I bought all these books tomorrow, that I would have time to read them all.  Nevertheless, they all sound amazing to me!

Pioneer Woman:

This is a woman of photography, cooking, and the ultimate story telling.  I love her series Black Heels to Tractor Wheels and I would LOVE to own her cookbook.

Post Secret:

I read this blog every Sunday when they post their “Sunday Secrets.”  I currently own the first of these books, however I believe there are three or four of them now.  It’s a fascinating project.

The Happiness Project:

Existing on the internet as a frequently updated blog, The Happiness Project (the book) has recently hit bookstores (and amazon).  I’ve loved the blog and I’m sure I would love the book as well!

The Ten Things You Need To Eat:

I actually discovered this book via The Happiness Project, but I am completely intrigued.  What would it look like to eat a diet made primarily of these ten core ingredients?

Stuff Christians Like:

We have obsessed about this blog for a LONG time, and in April the long-awaited book will hit the shelves!  This will be a book of hilarity for all of your down to earth Christian pals.

1000 Awesome Things:

A happy, daily blog that is in the process of creating The Book of Awesome–my question: will it be the same as what’s on the blog?  If so, I would love to have it just to open up to something joyful everyday…and keep it on the coffee table for everyone else to do, too!

So that’s it!  These are the books I am currently most intrigued by.  What are yours?
