I need some advice, y’all! Last fall, I purchased this softbox light from Amazon, in hopes of taking more indoor photos of Charlotte. So far I’ve used it only once, for her one-year photos, and I am overall really happy with the results. It was easy to set up, inexpensive, and folds up neatly for closet storage. The only negative was that it was a bit more “harsh” than I expected. Those of you who do indoor photo shoots at home, what do you use to simulate natural light? Or are you just lucky enough to have a big window to take pictures next to?
I haven’t taken many newborn photos – okay, only once before – but my sweet friend Karla let me practice a few lifestyle photos on her family after the recent arrival of Baby Bashton. Little Bash did not sleep while I was there…but we did the best we could! And big brother Soloh was a total rockstar…The most beautiful family! For all my favorites, pop over here.
This weekend, I had the distinct privilege of capturing my friends Dan and Candice in their last few weeks before the birth of their first baby. This couple is so beautiful, and they were so comfortable showing off their love for each other and their little girl. I really feel special to be able to capture these moments for them. Here are a few highlights! (Check out my portfolio site for more photo shoots!)
It has truly been a while since I’ve taken photos. In fact, since my move to Columbus over a year and a half ago, I don’t think I’ve done a single photo shoot. LIFE, am I right?

OKAY but recently a work friend asked me to take a few low key engagement photos for her. She and her fiance are super fun, and love video games. She’s planning on working a few little video game themes into her wedding, and it sounds so fun!! We have this really cool bar in Columbus called 16-Bit, where you can play all the old school arcade games your heart can handle, as long as you’re drinking their drinks (and honestly, even if you’re not). It’s a really cool place and seemed like a great spot for these two.
I confess, I don’t have the lighting equipment to do much indoor shooting. But between the natural light at the front of the bar, and the wonders of photoshop, I think we got a few fun shots! I think her save the date may include something along these lines…
A cool, comic-booky, arcade-y type image, don’t you think? A little bit of editing on the game between them, and it will say “Save the Date” along with the date and city of their upcoming nuptials. Clever move, Katie. Clever. Move.
And so here are a few more of my favorites from the shoot. Enjoy!
You all know by now that I love goals, lists, challenges, etc. So of course, a photo-a-day challenge for a month is pretty much right up my alley. Larabar is hosting this lovely little challenge over on instagram, and so far, my pupster Ryman is 2/3 of my photos. But I mean, she’s like, my child, so no surprise there.

Here’s what I’ve posted so far…

Day 2: Morning
Day 3: Stretch
I had SO much fun last weekend shooting a few photos of little two-year-old Miles! Mostly, I loved his hammy little personality and the joy this little family brought to a rainy day in the park! It is so fun for me to see them have so much fun together…how can you beat this??

If you are familiar with Nashville, then you are familiar with the beautiful Union Station hotel. Earlier this week, I went on a little photography adventure to capture some shots of Nashville for a little wedding project I’m working on. I wanted to share with you this shot of Union Station – the sun was perfectly behind the tower, and I’m in love with sepia coloring these days…
