Halloween Puppy Chow

Okay, first things first: Do you call it puppy chow or muddy buddies?? I had never even heard of muddy buddies until last week…

Now that we have THAT out of the way, please, enjoy…

This recipe that I stole from over here at A Southern Fairy Tale is a great twist on classic puppy chow. Instead of peanut butter, it uses nutella (genius). But I must admit, I used a jar of nutella, and then a huge glob of peanut butter too. Everything else though, I followed the recipe.

For candy add ins, I actually found s’mores candy corns and they were AWESOME. I also threw in some regular candy corn, an “autumn mix” which included pumpkins and such, and then a bag of Candy Corn M&Ms.

I was pretty confident upon purchasing them that “Candy Corn M&Ms” were simply m&ms in candy corn colors. This was a false assumption. They actually have like, a  candy corn filling. And with all the other candy corns in the mix, it was just a bit too much. A bag of regular ol’ m&ms would have been perfect here. Alas, it looks pretty!

Grandma’s Peanut Butter Bars

With over 12,000 all-time views, this recipe is seriously like, the best thing I make. Even here in the Buckeye State, I have been told these are better than buckeyes…go try for yourself!

Grandma’s Peanut Butter Bars

2 cups chunky style peanut butter
2 cups powder sugar
2 cups crushed graham crackers
1 stick + 1 Tablespoon melted butter
12 oz. semi sweet chocolate chips

Melt butter and mix with the first three ingredients.
Spread mixture into 13×9 pan.
Melt chocolate chips and spread on top.
Refrigerate for exactly 1/2 hour and cut into small sized bars (they are rich).
Keep refrigerated until you are ready to enjoy!

Tasty Tuesday: Memorial Madness

Before there was Pinterest, there was foodgawker (well, it still exists, but is less important). Back in 2009 when I posted this post, just after Memorial Day, I had no idea that the photo of my M&M Pretzels would go nuts. I got it on foodgawker, and years later, it spread out over Pinterest. Because of these social media pushes, this post has been viewed more than any other post – even my homepage!!! – with over 58,000 views. Heyo!

It was an all-in-all successful Memorial Day. I realized that we had a cookout last Memorial Day, just after we moved into the house. Hard to believe it’s been over a year! Anyway, take a look at the goodies we enjoyed…

Want to make these little delicious treats? Just melt Hershey’s kisses onto tiny twist pretzels (275 degrees, 3 minutes), remove, and immediately press a single m&m on each. Refrigerate until eating to make sure they are deliciously solid!

See the iced tea I brewed? To try this flavored, yet unsweetened tea, just brew orange spice, orange pekoe, and lemon teas (4:4:2) in 1 gallon of hot water. Allow to cool and serve over ice!

Pumpkin Dip

Yeah, this is good as it sounds / looks. Serve it with Nilla Wafers, graham crackers, apples, or pears. And it’s SO EASY to make. So do it!!

Pumpkin Dip

Ingredients
1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
1 can (15 ounces) solid-pack pumpkin
3 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

Instructions

Beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar together. Then add in pumpkin and seasonings, beating until all the ingredients are completely combined. Chill in the fridge, and voila! Deliciousness.

Fall Favorites {Round Up}

It’s October now, and starting to really feel like fall here in Ohio. I can’t say I’m looking forward to THE-SEASON-THAT-SHALL-NOT-BE-NAMED, which comes after fall and rhymes with “splinter,” but I still really LOVE fall. And now that I’ve had this lovely little blog going for over six years, I’ve shared a number of fall crafts, food, and festivites along the way. Here’s a little round up of some favorites!

Last fall, mama B visited in October and helped me deck out the house a little with some sweet decor, which I recently pulled out of the basement to use again. LOVE IT.

A few years ago, I bought little pumpkins at the Nashville farmers market and came up with a few new centerpieces. I need to do this again!!

Last year, this sweet little argyle wreath was inspired by my husband’s late grandmother’s fabrics. She quilted all the time, and my mother-in-law gave me a stack of these pretty squares. I used a few on this wreath, and still can’t decide how to use the rest!

One of my FAVORITE fall festivities is the Wine and Harvest fest in my little hometown. Best part? The Pumpkin Race! Literally, a few people get into giant pumpkin boats and race across the river. It’s awesome.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, of course, and I love decorating our pretty table. Another wonderful part of fall!

So that’s it. I love me some fall. A few years ago I took a photography class with my 35mm camera (not digital!) and took random photos all over the place. This one of a paper pumpkin is still one of my favorites. Happy Fall, Y’all!!

Super Hero Cake Balls

They always look completely homemade, by hand, but I just love making them. And recently, my friend Annie asked if I could make some cake balls for her son Carter’s Superhero themed 4th birthday party. My response? Of course! Always!

I had such a fun time making these. Cake and icing from scratch is the key – when you use store-bought, ESPECIALLY canned icing, they are just WAY too sweet. I mean, don’t get me wrong: these little buggers are as sweet and rich as you can get. But when you use canned icing, it’s just over-the-top-not-even-tasty sweet. And really, whipping up some icing is not the most time consuming part of this process, by any means.

I lucked out finding a few little extra touches, like these cute star candles and those sugar letters to spell out his name. The colors were red, blue, yellow, and green, but I pretty much only added green via the cupcake wrappers, letters, and one of the candles. It was more of an accent anyway!

Fun, right?? Annie also had someone make a layered super hero cake and both were a great success. My cake balls may look handmade, but they taste AMAZEballs (see what I did there).

I mean…you can already tell that they’re amazing, right? These cookies were the perfect homecoming treat for my hubster when he finally made his way back to Columbus.

These are totally, melt in your mouth, over the top sweet, best of all worlds, type cookies. MAKE THEM FOR THE PEOPLE YOU LOVE!!
