Traveling Chick

Bluegrass Underground {Round 2}

When the hubs and I had been dating a few months, he drove me over an hour and a half, out to the middle of no where, through total boonies, SUPPOSEDLY to go to a CONCERT and I thought to myself places like this do not have concerts OMG WHAT HAVE I DONE.

But then he pulled up to the Cumberland Caverns, and told me about Bluegrass Underground. There were cars and people and signage, and I felt much better about the whole ordeal.

You can read about that first experience here.

Recently, we went back, and brought a few friends with us.IMG_7917

You guys – it is even more beautiful than I remember! It is NOT a comfy spot to sit for a concert, but it’s worth it for the ambiance. The caverns stay a balmy 57 degrees all year round – I would relate it to going to a hockey game. You’re chilly, but you’re okay. I sipped on apple cider, and all was right in the world.

Also, the artist was really fun. A unique cellist, with an amazing voice, Ben Sollee was entertaining and relatable. Here is a photo from my iPhone, which is about a million times worse than my friend’s amazing samsung photo:

If you are ever in Tennessee, like bluegrass music, and are willing to take a bit of a drive to the middle of nowhere, then I HIGHLY recommend it. Nothing compares!

Life As I Know It, Traveling Chick

Oh Hey, Thursday.

No seriously, how is it Thursday already? I swear to you, as I was typing the title of this post, I wrote “Oh hey, Wednesday,” and quickly realized OH SNAP IT’S THURSDAY. This week has been bitter cold and seriously nuts at work. I have barely opened my laptop, let alone thought about blogging.

SORRY!!

So here are a few updates on what’s been happening since we last spoke…

1. Well first, I should mention that I spent Valentine’s weekend on a work trip to Florida, which wasn’t so bad since I saw sunshine, sand, and my Uncle Bob.

2. Then I came back to Ohio where there was much snow, many blankets, and a small but amazing concert by Tim Reynolds.

3. Also, my husby bought me an amazing new bag for work & travel… LOVE IT.

Not a lot to say, except that I love her. Have always loved her. Will always love her. Ingrid Michaelson is hands down in my top-five favorite artists of all time. She may even be #1 because at this moment, I can’t think of who I would have ahead of her. But maybe that’s because I’m still starstruck from her show on Friday.

The hubster totally surprised me Friday night with plans to see her at the LC theater here in Columbus. THIRD BEST SURPRISE EVER (I have to keep our engagement at #1 forever, and the Chicago trip at #2). But truly, what a great way to spend the night. And it was our first concert at the LC – it was AWESOME. Obviously, nothing will ever compare to the Ryman, but it was seriously a great, intimate space. We were in the back but hardly noticed!
