Megoirs {Happy Blogiversary!}

cropped-header1040-250.png

Hey everyone…I’m baaaaaack!! And today, on my six year blogiversary, you’ll see a bit of a makeover on the Megster Meter. For one, I’m switching up the name. After six years of pretty much the same stuff, it’s time for a little something new! The design is still pretty simple, but let’s face it…I don’t have much of a design eye, and I don’t have much disposable income to go paying someone to do it for me. So, here I am. What you see is what you get!

So Megoirs will pretty much be what you’re used to from me: recipes, crafts, health, travel, random rants, etc. I hope to add in a little bit more about the day-to-day of my life, but only when I’m feeling at least a little bit clever. Otherwise, those posts would be a tad bit boring for you.

Please stick around, comment when you feel so moved, and let me know if there is something you really like and would like to see more of. I’m here to ramble about my life please you! And if you’re bored, check out the pages listed across the top of the blog, including “start here,” “recipe box,” and “30 before 30.” Welcome back and enjoy!!

All my lovin,

Meghan

Hey guys! I’m going to take a little time to work on my blog’s design, appearance, layout, etc. so I’m not going to be posting for a little while. Hopefully I’ll have it all ready to go by my SIXTH blogiversary this August. Craziness!!

In the meantime, head up to the top of my page to check out my food, crafts, photography, and other fun stuff. And definitely follow me on Instagram (@megstermeter) where I will still be posting snippits of recipes and crafts and other fun life things. Thanks for sticking around!

Much love,

Megster

Five Year Blogiversary

It slipped my mind that yesterday marks the five-year mark since I started this blog…hard to believe!

It began becuase I was bored and thought I had something to say to the world. But what it’s really turned into is a public journal. It’s a place for me to share what I’m up to and what’s on my mind, even if it is just me and my family who read it sometimes. At the end of the day, it makes me feel like part of the bigger picture of life.

So through the crafts, the food, the heart breaks, the happies, and all of the personal growth, I have this strange electronic summary of five years of my life. Thank you all for being a part of it!

Blogiversary! {four years}

Today marks four years since I started this measly little blog. While it has definitely grown from how it began, I feel like it has remained very personal, and honestly, selfishly, mostly just for me. I am so grateful for the people who read it, and of course I love when I get positive feedback on anything I post. But at the end of the day, Megster Meter has really been about having a creative outlet, and really just trying to be more creative in general.

Let’s talk about some things that have happened in the last year, because that’s always fun…

I finished up my 101 in 1001 list…YAY!!

It looks like my most popular food post in the last year were these sweet little cupcakes:

The most popular projects were my recent wreath and also the bunting I made for a farm themed baby shower

One of my favorite travel moments was DEFINITELY this group of students on my plane, many of whom had never flown at all! Although this lady was pretty entertaining too…

Our March adventure to Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver was our most adventurous adventure yet, in my opinion, and sharing it with my favorite travel companion was simply the cherry on top.

This is just a few of the many great adventures and joys that have happened throughout the year. As I look through all my posts, I can’t help but think about how blessed I am to have a life so rich in relationships and discovery.

in the beginning.

Since this week has apparently turned into “let me tell you things you might not know about me because I have no new crafts or food to speak of,” I feel like it’s worth mentioning why I started blogging in the first place.

It was August. I had graduated in May. I was SO BORED with my life. Did you know that in the real world, you must seek out opportunities to become involved with stuff? Like, they aren’t presented to you at every turn and every email? I did not know this at first. I know this now.

Anyway, August. I was bored. I worked, and I hung out with friends, and that was about the extent of it. My coworker friend over at Kate Schmate had this adorable little blog with lots of creative things, and her writing was so entertaining. And I, at 22 years old, thought I had important things to say.

Turns out, at 25, I still don’t have important things to say.

Kate was the only blogger I knew, but I figured it was worth a shot. I started out with lengthy posts about nothing important (unlike my lengthy posts this week…which are very important! to me, anyway). And I was not hilarious (like Kate) or creative (like Kate) and no one read my blog.

Then I said to myself, “self, you like taking pictures. you should add pictures.” Actually, Pops suggested it. But it was a good suggestion, nonetheless.

And now, voila! My blog is no masterpiece, but it has become an essential creative and personal outlet in my life. I love knowing that y’all read it, but quite frankly, I’d love it just as much if mom and dad were the only ones who ever checked in.

If you’re considering starting a blog, do it! Even if you don’t know what to say, it’s BOUND to be better than my first posts. And if you’re really not sure how to start, how about a 101 list?

At the end of the day, none of us say anything new. We don’t reinvent the wheel. We just twist and shape a few things to feel like we’ve made a little footprint on this cyber-world of ours. And we’re all the better for it.

TAG! You’re it.

Well here’s a little something fun for you all — Sorority Sister Lauren over at Jammin’ in the Kitchen tagged me in a fun little game of blog tag.  She makes all sorts of yummy foods that I drool over all the time…check her out!

The idea is that she answered eight questions from the person who tagged her, and then created eight of her own.  Next, she tagged her own eight people…including me!  So, it’s my turn to answer her questions, make up my own, and then tag eight of you blogger pals.  Here we go…

1.  Do you have a favorite family recipe or food tradition that’s been handed down to you?  What is it?

This would absolutely be my grandma’s chocolate peanut butter bars.  How can you go wrong with these?

2.  What’s the worst thing you’ve ever eaten?

Probably the cow brains my dad forced me to try when I was little.  Do I remember what they tasted like? Nope. Yet somehow I remember the terror.  Thanks, dad.

3.  What would you have for your last meal?

Sunset Grill Nachos, of course!

4.  What are you most grateful for in your life right now?

The amazing friend and family relationships that have blossomed in the past year or so.  Never have I felt so content being on my own, knowing I have such a comprehensive and unconditional network of love.

5.  What is one recipe/new thing you’ve always wanted to try, but haven’t (or are afraid to make) yet?

Funny you should ask…because there are a few.  I REALLY want to try macaroons like these

I also want to make petit fours…maybe Christmas themed ones like this?

AND, although I’ve made cake balls at this point, I have yet to make and decorate cake POPS!  These might need to happen this Thanksgiving and Christmas.

6.  What do you consider your greatest accomplishment as of now?

This is a tough one.  I feel like I’m doing pretty well for 25…I think that I’m finally finding the balance of work, school, theater, church, and relationships.  Striking this balance is a huge accomplishment for me.  Each of these areas of my life fill me up to my fullest, and I hope that by my being full, I am able to really connect with people I come in contact with on a daily basis.

7.  If you could eat and travel your way through any city in the world, where would you go and why?

PARIS!!  Ok, so, I know I’ve been there already and whatever…it’s amazing.  Truly, I’d cover the whole country of France, but I know that’s not what you are asking.  Paris is one of those places that has hole-in-the-wall patisseries and boulangeries and fromageries and  DELICIOUSNESSIES in every nook and cranny.  Where else can you buy a baguette, a chunk of cheese, and a chocolate pastry that were all made that day, and stroll down the Champs d’Elysees?  Nowhere, that’s where.

8.  Do you have a favorite cookbook that you go back to again and again?  What is it?

Actually, I have two really amazing family sources of recipes.  One is a wooden “Chef Meghan” recipe box given to me by my mother full of our little family-of-two recipes, plus some from my grandma and aunt.  The second is a big binder of my paternal grandmother’s old German recipes and my step-maternal (that works, right?) grandmother’s old Italian recipes.  Each recipe is special to my family in one way or another.  Mom’s chicken salad is among my most frequently made recipes.

So that was pretty fun! And now, it’s your turn, my fellow blogger friends (in alphabetical order).  I know you all blog on all sorts of things, but hopefully you can have fun answering the questions I’ve come up with below.  Enjoy it!

Eight Questions Just For You (some may be stolen. sorry.)

1. What is the one blog or website you can’t start your day without (other than mine, of course)?

2. How about the one song you could listen to on repeat for forever and ever?

3.  What is your ultimate to-die-for dessert, either that you’ve made or someone else has made, and why?

4. What is in your refrigerator right now?

5. What is your favorite book or magazine, and why?  If you don’t have a favorite, then what’s the last one you read?

6. Baking, cooking, or takeout? Why?

7. What was your best food experience in the last few months?

8. What inspired you to start blogging? What has been your favorite post on your own blog?

Happy answering!  Thanks for the fun, Lauren!
