From the moment we find out we are pregnant, we can’t help but worry – about miscarriage, about a health baby, about how we keep a baby alive when we go home, about daycare, about the ONE MILLION things that could go wrong at any time, on any day. It’s just there.
But I just feel called to share my two cents on this issue. Because while we can’t help but worry for the people we love, we also cannot let it control us. Let’s be honest – we have no control over 99% of what happens to us or our kids! Having joy in our lives is truly a choice, and I have found that joy tends to be the opposite of worry in my life. When I’m deeply choosing joy, the worry tends to fall to the outskirts of my mind.
One of the many verses I cling to when struggling with worry is this…
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.Phillipians 4: 6-7
If you are struggling with worry today – whether as a parent or not – I challenge you to focus on what you are grateful for. What is good. What is working. What is hopeful. Choose joy where you can and the rest will follow.
