Yes, this happened for Easter weekend:Homemade chocolate brownies, sprinkled with snickers pieces, then chopped and layered with cool whip and homemade salted caramel.
It really, really happened. What better to celebrate His resurrection than the most decadent dessert you can find?
First, the brownies:
And then, the caramel:
For the record, Jonathan was a MAJOR help with the caramel. He helped me quickly “REMOVE FROM HEAT; STIR; BE QUICK BE QUICK!” and I freaked out and thank goodness he was ready to roll. The recipes for the brownies and the caramel came from Bakingdom.
After assembling, I was able to snap a quick photo before the family devoured them 🙂
Rolos would probably be incredible with this recipe, however I had snickers on hand, so there you go…and I took the cheaters route on the whipped cream by using cool whip. I was so scared to make caramel that I just couldn’t handle whipping cream too (even though, yes, whipping cream is the easiest thing ever).
Results? Deliciousness. My caramel wasn’t perfect – maybe it needed to boil a little longer, I don’t know, but it was still very sweet and salty and complimented the sweetness of the brownies perfectly. Everyone was quite happy with their personal little mason jar of heaven. They pretty much all looked like this by the end of the day:
That is an absolutely adorable idea!! I probably would’ve eaten two — one before any guests showed up, and another after the meal. (Taste testing is very important, after all!)
