You may (or may not) have noticed I’ve been missing the past couple days. Sadly, I had to make a 48-hour trip home to Wisconsin due to the death of my step-mom’s dad, lovingly known as Nonno.
In 1956, Nonno left Italy and settled in Wisconsin, where there is a surprisingly significant Italian population. Not long after moving, he met his future wife, who our family calls Nonna.
A few years ago, we celebrated Nonno and Nonna’s 50th wedding anniversary. In this fully Italian family, it’s pretty easy to pick out my dad, myself, and the other blonde in-laws.
Nonno was a happy, loving man who never lost his heavy Italian accent. He passed quickly and comfortably with the people he loved. Nonno, you will be missed!
