So remember as a child, you would stop at the gas station with your dad, and he would buy you a pre-dinner sweet treat that probably had more calories and fake ingredients than any fast food meal? Ok, maybe it was just me, but man I LOVED those Ho-Hos when I was little.
So imagine my surprise when I was home for the fourth of July and my mom made this Ho Ho Cake. I thought, “Oh, yum, but it couldn’t possibly taste like my childhood treat.” Oh was I wrong. Oh were they delicious.
Want to bring back some childhood? Here’s the recipe…
HO HO CAKE
1 chocolate fudge cake mix
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter (at room temperature)
2/3 c. Crisco shortening (at room temperature)
Pinch of salt
2 tsp. vanilla
5 oz. evaporated milk
1 can chocolate fudge frosting
Bake the cake in a 15 1/2 inch jelly roll pan according to the directions on the box.
Remove from oven and cool. Combine the next 6 ingredients (not the frosting) together in a mixing bowl, beat for 10 minutes. Spread the mixture onto the cake. Put the can of frosting in the microwave on high for 1 minute. Spread all over the cake.
