Crafting Monday: Recycled T-shirt Necklace

This was a craft I’ve been hoping to do for a while. I’ve even had a t-shirt sitting in a clump on my floor that I intended to use. It took me about 15 minutes on Sunday night–easy! However, It is not nearly as pretty as the ones in this tutorial. So I’m not sure if I’ll actually wear it, but I want to share it with you all anyway!

First, you need a t-shirt you are willing to sacrifice.

Next, you need to fold it in half lengthwise, cut of the hem, and then cut 1/2-3/4 inch strips horizontally, creating several fabric loops.

Finally, you gather the loops together and tug on them a little to stretch them out. Since my shirt had seams, I gathered them together at the seams. Then, tie scrap fabric around the loops to secure them together. I tried covering up the seams. I think part of my problem here was that I didn’t use a ruler, so the thinner loops stretched out more easily than the thicker ones, creating loops that were slightly different lengths. Oh well.

And here it is on my jewelry rack. It looks alright I think, but I just don’t know if I can pull it off. Maybe sometime I’ll just DO IT! 🙂
