The Great Pumpkin Regatta

Every fall, my hometown has a Wine and Harvest Festival, which always includes the Pumpkin Regatta. While I’ve been to the festival many times, I never made it to this ridiculous event, until this year when i happened to be home.

The facts are these: contenders carve out giant pumpkins, decorate them, climb in, and then race into the creek, around a tire, and back to the shore. Each person is racing for their non-profit, and there are cash prizes for the top three racers. From across the creek, I was able to capture a few photos of the race…

And here, a quick glimpse at the crowds our little town (pop. 11,000) bring in for the festival…
